The Kaleidomo Kaleidoscope Generator is an application for Windows and MacOS. It can use your computer's GPU, or if you choose (or don't have a GPU), it can use the CPU with SIMD and multithreading to generate media at an acceptable speed. This software is currently optimized for AVX2, SSE2, and NEON, but it will still work if your computer doesn't have those instruction sets.

Other Kaleidoscope Parameters

You can pick the number of slices for the effect, but the mode determines which values will look seamless or have visual barriers in the output. Radial symmetry just requires a multiple of 2 to look seamless. Square and Diamond tiling modes require a multiple of 3 to look seamless. Hexagon tiling modes require a multiple of 6 to look seamless.

The "Sample Radius" is a zoom multiplier for how long the triangular sample's side lengths will be, but it's kind of inverted. Look at the output preview while adjusting this slider. There is a button beneath this slider that will set the video zoom settings to the selected value.

The "Rotation" input rotates the triangular sample around its acute angle point. When the triangular sample is out of image bounds, images will have empty space or 0-alpha pixels, and videos will have black spots.

The output resolution sets the length of the shortest side of the output image/video, so that by putting 720 or 1080 with an aspect ratio of 9:16 or 16:9, the output resolution will be 720p or 1080p, respectively.

The tile count input controls the tile count of kaleidoscope outputs. This counts how many tiles will fit horizontally in the output. For all modes other than "Radial," you are able to adjust the tile count.

The color shift input shifts all of the colors of all of the pixels evenly to change the colors visible in the image or video.

Neural Amp Modeler models for my amp, and a cab IR for the cab.

The post Shop first appeared on Altered Brain Chemistry.

I bought some equipment to model my amp, and this is the outcome. I had to buy 2 reamp boxes and a Captor 8-Ohm reactive load box in order to model the amp. I also played a super loud sine sweep to capture the IR of the cab, or at least, one mic placement's IR.

You can use these models for free, but if you make money from using them, just know that I had to spend a couple hundred bucks and a few hours to record the samples and train the models.

Model File Organization

The model files are organized so that all of the clean models are together, all the clean + bright models are together, and all of the drive models are together, separated by Bright, Heavy, Medium, and Warm drive levels. The final "Cranked" or "Low" indicates the volume knob position when the recordings were made.

Batch 1 was a failing attempt at modeling the amp. It represents a failure that was caused by a ground loop which was caused by my MacBook Air. I had to switch to a headless desktop for recording/reamping. Those recordings are in Batch 2. You can see the error graphs in the zip file.

Installation Instructions

Download the zip file.

Extract the zip file to a suitable location.

Install Neural Amp Modeler audio plugin: Users | Neural Amp Modeler

Scan for new plugins in your DAW.

Add NAM to an audio track.

Use NAM to locate the .nam files in the zip file you extracted and use these models. Batch 2 had the best results.

Use NAM to locate the Cab IR .wav files in the zip file you extracted.

Tips

When using NAM, change the input volume knob to emphasize distortion as desired.

Use the output volume knob strictly for the volume of the amplified signal.

Disable EQ to use the raw EQ of the amp's settings, but you can use the EQ controls to adjust how it sounds

The Daydream Filter (ReShade) is a shader that constantly changes the colors in video games. This currently may only work in games without anti-cheat, and it depends on ReShade.

To use this, you will need to first download ReShade from here: https://reshade.me/. You do not need full add-on support to use this filter.

After downloading ReShade, open the application and select a game to install it for, and figure out what API the game uses with the website mentioned in ReShade.

Once ReShade is installed for a specific game, download the shader here, then navigate to the games folder and locate the reshade-shaders folder and insert the shader into the "Shaders" folder.

Next, launch the game and press the Home button to open up the ReShade UI and select the Daydream Filter from the list. You are now able to use the shader.

The post Shop first appeared on Altered Brain Chemistry.

The Mofo's Mojo v1

The Mofo's Mojo is audio plugin with the primary purpose of sounding like a mofo. It is an envelope filter (also known as an auto-wah effect) that works okay on guitars, but it can be used on other instruments, including drums and synthesizers. Each knob can be automated with automation clips, low-frequency oscillators (LFOs), or physical controls on a MIDI controller (depending on if the DAW and plugin format support it). For taste, you may want to place a compressor after the filter (hint hint).

Envelope filters change some values in response to changes in the amplitude or volume of the input signal. The Mofo's Mojo has some "direction" buttons on it that affect which direction the control signal goes in relation to the amplitude, and it has some "tension" knobs that applies a curve to the envelope's signal.

Consider joining the Altered Brain Chemistry Discord server for feedback, tutorials, and updates.

Supported platforms:

Manual:

Central Section

Drive

The drive knob determines how much drive is applied to the input signal when it goes through the filter. When the drive and resonance are high enough, the filter will self oscillate.

Volume

The volume knob controls the output volume in decibels. I've noticed that this filter can make the signal louder and that the volume generally needs to be set to a negative value.

Filter Section

Cutoff

The cutoff knobs set the base frequency of the filter. There are 2 cutoff modes:

Auto: sets the cutoff frequency relative to the lowest note being played at any given time. The knob's value is multiplied by the fundamental frequency of the lowest note played to obtain the base cutoff frequency. This is an experimental feature, but you're more likely to use the Classic mode.

Classic: this is the cutoff frequency mode that everyone is used to, where the knob's value is the base cutoff frequency.

The cutoff mode buttons switch between these modes. When Classic mode is selected, the Auto mode knob won't do anything.

Filter Type

Currently, only Low Pass and High Pass filters are present in this version.

Slope

The filter slope determines how much is removed from the input signal at a rate of -12 dB per octave or -24 dB per octave.

Resonance

Resonance can be used to emphasize or dull the input signal at the filter's cutoff frequency. When the resonance and drive are high enough, the filter will self oscillate at the filter's cutoff frequency.

Envelope Follower Section

Direction knobs

The direction knobs control which direction the envelope signal goes when the input signal is decreasing/decaying.

When set to "Down," the envelope signal decreases when the input signal decreases.

When set to "Up," the envelope signal increases when the input signal decreases.

Tension knobs

The tension knobs affect the slope of the envelope control signal using unit range biasing, courtesy of Signalsmith. Fun fact: the "Cutoff" envelope follower's tension knob almost acts as a "tone" knob.

Cutoff

The cutoff group affects the cutoff frequency of the filter.

The Cutoff Envelope Amount knob sets the upper bound of the filter's cutoff frequency sweep in +half-octaves above the base cutoff frequency.

At 0, there is no sweeping, and the cutoff frequency is equal to the base cutoff frequency.

At 5, the cutoff frequency sweeps from the base cutoff frequency to 2.5 octaves above the base frequency.

At 10.0, the cutoff frequency sweeps from the base cutoff frequency to 5 octaves above the base frequency.

Speed

The speed group... there aren't many individual words to describe it better. This control adds an upper bound to the cutoff frequency's envelope amount. Basically, it does what the cutoff frequency envelope follower does to the cutoff frequency... to the cutoff frequency envelope follower.

Resonance

The resonance group adds an upper bound to the base resonance. This control is useful if you want to have the same "wah" when the resonance is at 10, but without the self oscillation that it may bring.

Drive

The drive group adds an upper bound to the base drive. This is also useful if you want a "wah" with a lot of drive, but with less the self oscillation.
